Roga nidana subject plays an important role in Ayurveda science.
The word Roga nidana means knowledge of disease by the Nidan Panchak (Nidan, Poorvarupa, Rupa, Upashaya and Samprapti). it plays important role in clinical etiological as well as pathological aspect of disease. Causative factor of the disease internal or external directly or indirectly create an imbalance of Tridosha (homeostasis of the body) first and then symptoms of disease manifest. Roga nidan play vital role at this level to understand what is the causative factor and how it manifests the symptoms of disease.
Roga Nidana is the chief subject that connects physician with patient and then to medicine. Thus, without pareeksha and analysis of roga and rog avinischaya chikitsa cannot be administered. The chikista begins from understanding Prakruti, Doshaavastha, Vyadhiavastha, Roga rogibala, agni, Koshta, Satmya, and Samprapati.
